Quantum-safe communication - how does it work?
A central element is Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). QKD is based on physical principles and enables the generation of cryptographic keys by using individual particles of light (photons).
Another important concept is Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), which is based on new mathematical principles. These cryptographic methods are designed in such a way that they are also resistant to attacks from quantum computers.
pQC and QKD can be combined to create hybrid encryption. In very simplified terms, a QKD system "beams" cryptographic keys that can be used for symmetric encryption for various applications (e.g. VPN).
