Do you want to get to know the world of IT from the ground up and not just watch, but really make a difference? At CANCOM, you will be part of a team that shapes the future from day one - with exciting projects, real challenges and the opportunity to develop professionally and personally.

During your apprenticeship as an information technologist specializing in systems technology, you will not only learn how hardware, software and networks work - you will learn how to find solutions, implement ideas and achieve goals together as a team.

Your apprenticeship at a glance

1.and 2nd year of apprenticeship: basic technical training
In the first two years of your apprenticeship, you will be in our training workshop in Vienna. There you will learn all the basics of IT: hardware, software, networks and programming.

3.and 4th year of apprenticeship: Get into practice!
In the last two years, you will work directly in our departments - and show what you can do. This is where you put what you have learned into practice and consolidate your skills in real working life at your home location.

Apprenticeship

We will train you as an information technologist with a focus on systems engineering.

Prerequisite

You have a positive compulsory school leaving certificate and are at least 15 years old.

The apprenticeship lasts 4 years.

Start of training

The apprenticeship begins annually on September 1.

Salary

Your salary starts at € 1,223 in the first year of the apprenticeship and € 1,529 with the Matura.

From the application to the 1st working day

1. Step

Prepare your documents: A complete CV, your certificates and a self-made video will give us a first impression of you!

2. Step

Upload your documents and the video to the online portal. We have now officially received your application.

3. Step

We will invite you to an aptitude test at the location for which you have applied. Depending on the federal state, you can expect a personal meeting or an assessment day.

4. Step

You've made it! With our confirmation, you will receive a pre-apprenticeship contract that guarantees you the start of your apprenticeship in September.

5. Step

Before the official start of your apprenticeship, we will invite you to an information event where you will get to know your mentor team, the training workshop and all the other apprentices.

6. Step

Your first day at work in September is the start of an exciting journey full of new experiences and shared learning successes.

FAQ

All important information about the apprenticeship at a glance

  • When is the ideal time to apply?

    The best time is between November and February.

  • I have applied to CANCOM Austria. How long do I have to wait for an acceptance/rejection?

    It can be quite nerve-wracking to have to wait for a response - so we will get back to you as soon as possible after you have sent your application.

  • What is the job interview about?

    The interview takes place together with one or two parents or guardians. Typical topics of discussion include information about the company and your motivation as to why you would like to learn the apprenticeship in information technology (specializing in systems engineering) with us.

  • How should I prepare for the entrance test and in which language will it be held?

    The entry test is about testing your knowledge in the areas of mathematics, German and science. The test is generally held in German again. Tip: A good knowledge of English is also an advantage.

  • Can I also start in the second year of my apprenticeship?

    As we offer a compact two-year basic training program, we only accept apprentices from the first year of their apprenticeship.

  • Which school will I attend during my training?

    Berufsschule für Elektro-, Veranstaltungs- und Informationstechnik Austria
    Beruffsschule Elektro-, Veranstaltungs- und Informationstechnik at Mollardgasse 87, 1060 Vienna.

  • Where do I live during my training in Vienna?

    Apprentices who do not come from Vienna can live in youth hostels during their training:

    Underage apprentices in the residential home Starteplatz Rudolfsheim Reichsapfelgasse 3, 1150 Vienna, adult apprentices in the residential home FSW-Startplatz Ober St. Veit, Hietzinger Kai 141-143, 1130 Vienna.

    Note: CANCOM Austria supports apprentices who require accommodation in a dormitory by covering 50% of the costs each month. During the summer months there is no financial support from CANCOM Austria, as the apprentices live with their relatives during this time.

  • Can I also do the vocational baccalaureate during my apprenticeship?

    Yes, CANCOM Austria actively supports apprentices in completing their A-levels alongside their work.

  • How are my working hours regulated?

    The standard weekly working time is 38.5 hours, whereby underage apprentices may not work more than 9 hours per day according to the law.

  • What is my apprenticeship salary?

    Apprentice salary as at June 2025, paid 14 times a year
    Please note: The amount of the salary also depends on whether you have already completed your A-levels:

    • In the 1st year of apprenticeship € 1223.52 gross without Matura and € 1529.39 with Matura
    • In the 2nd year of apprenticeship € 1529.29 gross without Matura and € 1988.21 with Matura
    • In the 3rd year of apprenticeship € 1835.26 gross without Matura and € 2294.09 with Matura
    • In the 4th year of apprenticeship € 2385.85 gross without Matura and € 2534.96 with Matura
  • Do I get a bonus payment for good performance?

    The assessment at CANCOM Austria takes place every six months. Depending on the result of the assessment, up to 20 hours of time off are possible in the first year of the apprenticeship. In the following half-years, a bonus of up to € 300 is possible, depending on the result of the assessment.

    Of course, CANCOM Austria also rewards performance at vocational school. The annual certificate is the basis for this. You will receive € 200 for an excellent result and € 70 for a good result.

    CANCOM Austria apprentices with excellent school results in the third and fourth year of their apprenticeship receive an award from the City School Board. The reward for this achievement is paid out in the form of a bonus of € 400.

    A final apprenticeship examination with excellent results is rewarded with € 400.

    CANCOM Austria also rewards first, second or third place in a professional competition with an additional bonus.

  • Can I do an internship abroad during my training?

    Yes, under certain conditions, an internship abroad is possible for apprentices as part of the international exchange of skilled workers.

    Requirements for an internship abroad:

    • Apprentice is in the 2nd year of apprenticeship.
    • Minimum age 16 years
    • Good performance, good knowledge of English
