One step ahead with the apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship at CANCOM gives young people the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally in a stable and future-oriented company. We offer an environment in which personal responsibility, team spirit and openness to new ideas are a matter of course. And in which everyone receives the support that is important for a successful start to their career.

Our trainers support apprentices from day one, promoting individual strengths and providing guidance. It's not just about up-to-date specialist knowledge in IT and digitalization, but also about skills that are valuable for life, such as independent work, solution-oriented thinking and constructive collaboration.

In this way, we create training that is based on quality, trust and genuine development and lays the foundation for a successful future.

To give you a good idea, we have collected and answered frequently asked questions from parents here.

FAQ

All important information for parents

  • Is CANCOM Austria an economically secure training company?

CANCOM is a leading, international IT service provider with a stable market position that regularly invests in further training, digitalization and apprentice development. Originally part of the Kapsch Group, we have been a successful part of CANCOM since 2024. This makes us not only a training company with over 70 years of experience in apprenticeship training, but also economically stable and broadly positioned for the future. We have large, renowned customers who have counted on us for years and decades - as well as a stable employee base.

  • How many apprentices does CANCOM Austria train?

We are currently training around 40 apprentices across all 4 apprenticeship years. Every September, between 8 and 11 new apprentices start their first year.

  • Is my child even suitable for this career field?

Since IT is basically math and physics, it is important that your son/daughter finds these subjects easy at school. A good logical understanding is a basic requirement to be successful in this industry and to enjoy your work. German is our working language, so very good written and spoken German is just as important. And the language of IT is English. Training courses and documentation are written in this language, so your son/daughter should also find English easy.

Many companies offer jobs for IT system technicians, with very different areas of responsibility. At CANCOM Austria, everyday work is characterized by communication with customers and colleagues - by email, on the phone and in face-to-face meetings. Your son/daughter should therefore find it easy and enjoy communicating with other people and expressing themselves. And all the work takes place on the computer.

  • What are the chances of being taken on after the apprenticeship?

Our aim is to train our apprentices so well that we take them on after they have completed their apprenticeship. Our apprentices have the same diverse development and career opportunities as all other employees and we have a lot of great teams with whom it is fun to work on the digitalization of the future. This also convinces most apprentices to stay with CANCOM Austria in the long term after their apprenticeship.

  • What is the structure of the training?

In the 1st and 2nd year of the apprenticeship, the basic technical training takes place in the training workshop in Vienna. This also applies to apprentices from the federal states who live in apprentice accommodation during this time. In the 3rd and 4th year of apprenticeship, further training takes place directly in the specialist departments. Apprentices from the federal states then return to the regional branches until the end of their apprenticeship.

  • Will my child receive support with the final apprenticeship examination (LAP)?

We provide targeted preparation for the LAP with continuous feedback, time to study and tutoring. Apprentices from the provinces also come to Vienna two weeks before the LAP for intensive preparation.

  • When should my child apply and how does the process work?

The apprenticeships will be advertised at CANCOM Austria in December. The application period then runs until March. First, the applications are reviewed (certificate, letter of motivation). If all criteria are met, we invite the applicant to an entry test. If the results are positive, there will be a personal interview with the teaching team and a final decision will be made.

  • Can I be present at the interview?

We have found that the young applicants are then a little more relaxed, feel more confident to speak freely and the parents do not take over the interview. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

  • How can my child's daughter prepare for the application process or can I support her?

We would like to receive a letter of motivation in which we can find out why exactly the apprenticeship should be with us, which characteristics are useful for this training/profession and whether there is perhaps already experience in IT (tinkering on the PC at home, internships, etc.). It is also important to us that applicants find out about CANCOM Austria: For example, who we are and what we do and, above all, what the content of the apprenticeship is.
